Allah tells us in the Qur’an that He intends ease for us, rather than difficulty. We see this manifestation of Divine love in the very concept of Sadaqah -ul – Jariya. The concept identifies some deeds which you do once and because they benefit people in the long run, you get continuous rewards for them. In short, your deeds outlive you.
The loving God hence makes it easy for you to get rewards, even after you pass away.
Another beauty underlying the concept of Sadaqah -ul – Jariya is that it is fundamentally based on helping. Once you understand what deeds make up the Sadaqah – ul – Jariya, you’ll begin observing a pattern – a pattern which benefits and empowers not just people, but even animals and birds. And such a pattern only defines the beauty of Islam.
Abu Huraira (RadhiAllahu ‘anhu) quotes Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying: “When a man dies, his acts come to an end, but three, recurring charity or knowledge (by which people) benefit, or a pious son, who prays for him (for the deceased).”
Sahih Muslim – Book 13 – Hadith 4005
We’ve put together a list of easy methods which require you to invest once and reap the benefits till eternity.
Donate Towards Building a Mosque.
You don’t have to take the entire onus of building the Mosque upon yourself. Give as much as you can. No need to stress yourself. Even a minor donation in this cause makes you eligible for Sadaqah -ul – Jariya. When the Mosque is built, as many people pray in it will be directly proportional to your rewards. Imagine that!
Donate to an orphanage
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate.

So imagine if you contribute towards building an orphanage where so many orphans are supported, educated, fed and brought up. How happy would the Prophet (peace be upon him) would be and how happy would your Lord be!
Donate a Copy of the Qur’an
Every time somebody reads from it, you get your due share of rewards (without affecting theirs). It’s a win-win situation. Donating Qur’an copies doesn’t require you to look for people to donate to. These days, many Qur’an apps let you make this donation. So Sadaqah -ul – Jariya becomes as easy as a click!
At a time of wild deforestation, many animals and birds lose their habitat. What do we as Muslims do about it? Nothing?
Well, here’s an idea – plant a tree. When the tree grows and an animal or bird seeks shelter from it or eats from it, you’ll get a rewards for the ease you caused them.
Place a water cooler in a public place
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.”
So if you give a water supply to a public place and people get to quench their thirst from it, imagine the rewards you will earn every time.
