How To Keep Up With Your Salah

On the night of Ascension, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was gifted with the 5 daily prayers or Salah for the entire Ummah. We call the Salah a gift because it is a means of truly connecting with the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It is a time when we break free from our monotony and spare a moment revering the One who created us. The benefits of Salah are many – first, it stands between us and Kufr, it offers us a position where we are drawn closest to Allah and most importantly, it becomes a time when we have  one-on-one conversation with our Creator. A tiny whisper we make during our Salah is heard and honored above the 7 heavens. Imagine the beauty!
Despite understanding the beauty of Salah, many of us miss out on it. Some of us give in to our lethargy, others get stuck in their daily schedules. Some of us feel that we are too sinful to pray while others believe that Islam is only in the heart. Reasons are many. But none of them is going to bring us any good when we stand before our Lord with our deeds in hand.

Therefore it becomes quintessential that we try our best to keep up with our 5 daily prayers, no matter what.

Here are a few tips to get you going:

Salah is for everybody

No matter how sinful you are, never leave your Salah. No matter what your sin is or how big it is, it’s surely not going to be bigger than Allah’s love and mercy for you. So avoid the loop of hopelessness and pray no matter how much you have erred. Your Salah will bring you closer to Allah’s forgiveness. It will reap you peace and contentment in this life and the next.

Plan your day

They say if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Plan your routine chores around your Salah. Understand why each prayer is timed the way it is. While Fajr requires you to discard sleep, Zohr and Asr require you to choose Deen over material wealth.

Set an alarm

Too busy in your routine? Everyone needs a reminder. Today there are plenty of apps available which help you with Salah reminders and even let you personalize the sounds, school of thought and more.

With the call to prayer sounding everywhere you go, it becomes all the more reason to establish Salah.

Understand your Salah

Try to understand your prayer even if you are a non Arab speaker. The whole experience of your Salah will be transformed once you realize what your lips are uttering. You will have better concentration and better will at maintaining your Salah.

Try try till you succeed

Everytime you make a resolve to keep up with your prayer may not be the time you succeed. Nevertheless, keep at it. Don’t let a missed prayer be a reason to skip the next. Don’t let a missed prayet shaken your resolve
